Conheça "The Berlin File"

Managing Diabetes, Then Told of Cancer - NYTimes.com

Nine years ago, Brenda Gray, a former schoolteacher in North Carolina, discovered she had Type 2 diabetes.

Since then, she has learned to manage the disease, diligently taking her medicine and keeping tabs on her blood sugar. But in September, she was told she had skin cancer, and her diabetes spun out of control.

Ms. Gray started an aggressive course of treatment that included radiation therapy. But the treatments weakened her and destroyed her appetite. Unable to eat, she developed dangerously low blood-sugar levels, and about two months ago, Ms. Gray?s daughter had to rush her to a hospital.

?She found me in bed shaking and sweating,? said Ms. Gray, who is 62 and lives in Durham. ?When I got to the hospital, they couldn?t understand how I was still standing.?

Cancer and diabetes are two of the leading killers in America. Each can be a devastating diagnosis in its own right, but researchers are finding that the two often occur together. By some estimates, as many as one in five cancer patients also has diabetes.

In a recent joint report, the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association noted that people with Type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of developing cancers of the liver, pancreas, colon and bladder. Researchers with the National Cancer Institute released a similar report last year, which found greater rates of cancer among diabetics, as well as an elevated risk of dying from cancer.

Experts say it is clear from accumulating clinical data that the two share some biological links. The problem results from simple demographics as well: with the rapid rise in Type 2 diabetes and a growing population of cancer survivors, the two diseases are coinciding more frequently in older patients.

?We are going to see a lot greater numbers of people with both diseases,? said Edward Giovannucci, a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and an author of the joint report. ?By some estimates, the link between diabetes and cancer may quantitatively become even more important than the link between smoking and cancer.?

Already, oncologists say, it is not uncommon to encounter patients struggling to balance cancer treatments with insulin shots and diabetes drugs. Because cancer is generally seen as the more lethal of the two diseases, patients often make it the priority.

?Although cancer is no longer generally a death sentence, for many patients, they see it as that no matter what you say,? said Dr. June McKoy, a geriatric oncologist at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. ?Suddenly, they put their diabetes on the back burner, and they focus on the cancer.? But high blood sugar can damage kidneys and blood vessels, strain the immune system and worsen cancer prognosis.

Researchers say that the link between the two diseases is complex and driven by many factors. Typically, though, it is diabetes that sets the stage for cancer. ?Most cancers don?t cause diabetes,? said Dr. Pankaj Shah, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. ?Mostly diabetes increases the risk of cancer.?

Type 2 diabetes is often preceded by chronically high insulin levels and high blood sugar, fertile conditions for cancer. Insulin is known to fuel cell growth, and cancer cells consume glucose out of proportion to other nutrients. The two diseases share many risk factors as well, including obesity, poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking and advanced age.

Another factor that complicates the relationship is the treatments given to patients. Diabetes drugs can have an impact on cancer prognosis and vice versa. Type 2 diabetics treated with the drug metformin, for example, develop cancer less frequently than diabetics given other medications. A number of clinical trials are now under way to see how well the drug performs as a cancer treatment.

Drugs used against cancer, on the other hand, tend to worsen diabetes.?Chemotherapy can wreak havoc on blood sugar levels, and glucocorticoids, which are widely prescribed to alleviate nausea in cancer patients, promote insulin resistance, said Dr. Lorraine L. Lipscombe of Women?s College Hospital in Toronto.

Dr. Lipscombe was the lead author of a large study last month that found that breast cancer survivors were 20 percent more likely to receive a diabetes diagnosis than other women. The study found evidence that glucocorticoids and chemotherapy may hasten the onset of diabetes.

?They don?t cause diabetes in everyone, but they can bring out or unmask it in people who might already be vulnerable,? she said.

For diabetics who are used to tightly monitoring their blood sugar levels, the impact of cancer drugs can be alarming. Rigoberto Cortes, 71, a former metal worker in Chicago, has had Type 2 diabetes for over two decades. A year ago, he was told he had Stage 3 colon cancer.

?When I started chemotherapy, my sugar level was going way up and way down like never before,? he said. ?I kept asking my oncologist what I should do.?

Mr. Cortes said his oncologist was not very concerned by the blood sugar swings. He eventually got a second opinion and switched doctors. He also lost weight and changed his eating habits, which helped minimize his blood sugar swings.

Although every case is different, the general strategy in treating such patients should be to get the cancer under control first, said Dr. Shah at the Mayo Clinic.

?Diabetes treatment essentially is given to prevent long-term complications,? he added.

At some hospitals, oncologists may take responsibility for managing blood sugar and other diabetes concerns in their cancer patients. But ideally, treatments should be coordinated by a team that includes a certified diabetes educator.

?They go over diet with the patient, review their medication, review their insulin,? said Dr. McKoy of Northwestern. ?They can play a big role.?

For a diabetic trying to navigate the world of cancer, or a cancer patient navigating the world of diabetes, such interventions can be crucial. In a study published in October, Dr. McKoy and her colleagues looked at several years of health records for over 200,000 people with Type II diabetes who developed cancer.

Those who underwent a diabetes counseling session after their cancer diagnosis ? consisting of two sessions a week for four to six weeks ? were more likely to receives tests of hemoglobin A1c levels, a barometer of how well blood sugar has been controlled over time, and to take care of their blood sugar levels. As a result, they had fewer emergency room visits, fewer hospital admissions and lower health care costs.

Ms. Gray, the former schoolteacher in Durham, learned this firsthand. After her recent emergency, she worked with a diabetes educator at Duke University Hospital. Ms. Gray learned tips and strategies to balance the two diseases, including ways to keep her blood sugar normal when cancer treatments ruin her appetite.

?I came into the hospital and they got me back on track,? she said. ?I was just so focused on the cancer. It changed everything. But I?ve learned how to face this.?

Venezuela's Chavez suffers new post-surgery complications

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is suffering further complications linked to a respiratory infection that hit him after his fourth cancer operation in Cuba, his vice president said in a somber broadcast on Sunday.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro flew to Cuba to visit Chavez in the hospital as supporters' fears grow for the ailing 58-year-old socialist leader, who has not been seen in public nor heard from in three weeks.

Chavez had already suffered unexpected bleeding caused by the six-hour operation on December 11 for an undisclosed form of cancer in his pelvic area, and officials say doctors then had to fight a respiratory infection.

"Just a few minutes ago we were with President Chavez. He greeted us and he himself talked about these complications," Maduro said in the broadcast, adding that the third set of complications arose because of the respiratory infection.

"Thanks to his physical and spiritual strength, Comandante Chavez is confronting this difficult situation."

Maduro, flanked by his wife Attorney-General Cilia Flores, Chavez's daughter Rosa Virginia and her husband, Science Minister Jorge Arreaza, said he would remain in Havana while Chavez's condition evolved.

Chavez's resignation for health reasons, or his death, would upend politics in the OPEC nation where his personalized brand of oil-financed socialism has made him a hero to the poor but a pariah to critics who call him a dictator.

The president's allies have been openly discussing the possibility that he may not be able to return to swear in for his third six-year term on the constitutionally mandated date of January 10.

Opposition leaders say a postponement would be another signal Chavez is not in a fit state to govern and that new elections should be called to choose his replacement.

They believe they have a better shot against Maduro, who was named earlier this month by Chavez as his heir apparent, than against the charismatic president who for 14 years has been nearly invincible at the ballot box.

Any constitutional dispute over succession could lead to a messy transition toward a post-Chavez era in the country with the biggest oil reserves in the world.

Maduro has become the face of the government in Chavez's absence, imitating the president's bombastic style and sharp criticism of the United States and its "imperialist" policies.

HE’S MUCH TOO SOPHISTICATED FOR THE STANDARD TESTS: A COMPARISON BETWEEN FRANKENSTEIN & THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

Advancements in technology, science, and medicine should be something that society welcomes with open arms. Unfortunately, those that are devoutly religious have a difficult time accepting these advancements, as it would cause them to rethink their faith. The battle between science and religion is extremely complicated and long lasting. Luckily the battle hasn’t been entirely one sided. Over the course of time, the way in which society views science and scientists has greatly evolved. One of the quickest ways we can see this shift is by focusing on the media outlets of the time. When it comes to analyzing how society treated scientists/(wo)men of science, there is no need to look any further than 1931’s Frankenstein and 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs. Henry Frankenstein and Dr. Hannibal Lecter are two of the most iconic men of science in cinematic history. While one is regarded as a ‘mad scientist’ the other is regarded as one of the most criminally intelligent men to walk the planet. The major difference between the two of these men is the way in which society treated them. The 1930s was a time where the word of God reigned supreme over science whereas the 1990s were a turning point for respect for those with intellect. Both Frankenstein and The Silence of the Lambs are considered to be one of the most important films of their respective eras, which leads us to safely assume that both films truly captured the essence of society’s mindset during their times.

The 1930s may have been a high time for great minds like Albert Einstein, but it was also a time of recovery for America. Finally picking up their britches after enduring The Great Depression, movies became a hot ticket to help distract and entertain society. This was also a time when prayer was still mandated in schools and the theory of evolution was more often avoided than taught. To put it simply, after surviving one of the largest financial tragedies of all time, people were more focused on their faith than of their scientific advancements. Witness Henry Frankenstein. Henry Frankenstein was written to be a brilliant scientist who had been conducting less-than-ordinary experiments on the re-animation of lifeless corpses. After small successes with experiments on animals, he made an attempt to reanimate a living human being composed of body parts he had been collecting from graveyards/gallows. Although he finds success with his monster, he is met with hostility from all of those around him. His hours spent in his laboratory causes tension between himself and his family/friends. Henry Frankenstein has officially played God and will now suffer the consequences in doing so. His creature is met with high hostility and is treated much like the lepers were in biblical times. Had Henry Frankenstein chosen a different livelihood, perhaps one outside of the scientific nature, he would not have been greeted with such turmoil.

Despite being solely responsible for the destructive monster ravishing throughout his community, the creature receives all of the blame and demise while Henry Frankenstein walks away seemingly untouched. This could be due to audiences in the early 30’s not wanting to see a courtroom drama in their monster movies, but it could also be argued that it was simply because the 1930s were a time where the ‘sin’ was punished rather than the sinner. Regardless, Henry Frankenstein was a man of science and the entire moral of Frankenstein is that playing God or playing with science would do nothing more than cause turmoil in ones life. The only way to avoid such consequences would be to act as all faithful citizens had been taught and to avoid any and all forms of questioning.

On an entirely different side of the coin, fast-forward nearly sixty years to 1991 when American audiences were met with one of the most treasured doctors of all time. Anthony Hopkins infamously played Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of The Lambs; with a little over sixteen minutes of screen time, Dr. Hannibal Lecter became one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. Unlike Henry Frankenstein, Dr. Hannibal Lecter was a man of intellectual science. A brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter is quite possibly the greatest anti-hero to ever grace the silver screen. While Americans have given criminals the death penalty for far less than the crimes committed by Dr. Lecter, his intelligence is of such a remarkable level, he has often been utilized while in prison to help the American government profile and capture other serial killers. The 1990s were a start of a more progressive and respectful era when it comes to intelligence or scientific discovery. Rather than treating individuals with high levels of intelligence like outcasts, the 1990s brought an air of respect. Dr. Lecter was in jail for his crimes, but his intelligence prevented him from criminal punishment. Dr. Frederick Chilton may have said it best in the film with, “Oh, he's a monster. Pure psychopath. So rare to capture one alive. From a research point of view, Lecter is our most prized asset.” What was it about Dr. Hannibal Lecter that made us want to treat him with kindness?

It is important to note the setting of both The Silence of the Lambs as well as Frankenstein. Henry Frankenstein is ridiculed for science in a somewhat foreign environment of castles and personal laboratories, whereas the setting for The Silence of the Lambs was far more modern and realistic for audiences. Kendall Phillips says in his book Projected Fears, “With Silence, the horrors that had moved from Transylvania to the Gothic suburbs of Halloween emerged into the complicated and politically tense world of reality,” (Pag 153). There it is. The location and time period heavily influence Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s treatment. It’s much easier to see coming from the viewpoint of the new millennium’s audience, but the 1990s was the start of the “politically correct” movement. No longer were we allowed to speculate and judge individuals on their differences but rather were forced to develop a sense of understanding and tolerance for those different. In addition, religion was no longer the center of all existence. In the sixty years between Frankenstein and The Silence of the Lambs, tolerance of all religions (not just the Catholic/Christian religions that were the major focus in the 1930s) was in effect meaning science had a chance to flourish as its own entity against (what many believed to be) the word of God. Strangely enough, the binds that have been loosened upon Dr. Lecter by society seem to also be what drives his more dangerous personality traits. “He is an entity of pure consuming desire, a ravenous id, unleashed from the bonds of morality or obligation,” (Phillips 158). With Dr. Hannibal Lecter free of all moral constraints set upon him religion, he was free to evolve as intelligently as humanly possible, but also as immoral. It still influences the idea that those with more science than religion in their are going to grow up to be menaces to society, but the growing requirement of tolerance causes us to be intrigued by these individuals instead of terrified. That’s one of the most universally perplexing things about Hannibal Lecter.

For all intents and purposes, anyone that comes in contact with Dr. Lecter should be absolutely horrified by his presence and want him to sizzle in the electric chair, but everyone from doctors, federal agents, and even senators find his intelligence to be one of the greatest assets to society. Towards the end of the film, Hannibal Lecter goes as far as killing one of the guards assigned to watch him and arranges his corpse above his jail cell in an extremely symbolic manner. With his entrails removed and bed sheets hoisting his lifeless body above the ground, it would appear that Hannibal Lecter had arranged this man to resemble the angel Gabriel, the messenger from the bible. Hannibal used the very religion he didn’t believe in to send a message to those trying to understand him. It would appear that only those of true intellect would ever understand where he was going, but unfortunately for those around him, they were all walking a life of faith and therefore would never understand the message he was trying to send. Despite his anti-moral behavior, his intelligence is what prevails and keeps him alive and desired. Science and religion play a major role in just about every political decision made on Capitol Hill. While many would like to believe that the decisions are made with the best interests of the citizens in mind, the fact of the matter is that our elected officials make decisions based on their own personal morals and agendas. In America, our media outlets often reflect the way society as a whole views a topic and horror films are no exception. By examining both 1931’s Frankenstein and 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs, film goers can get a better look on the way the people of the time handled and valued science.

Guarda Redes: Hou Hsiao-hsien.

Lateral Esquerdo: Steven Spielberg.

Lateral Direito: Guy Ritchie.

Médio Ofensivo: James Cameron – É o criativo do qual todos esperam sempre grandes resultados e feitos.

Uns veneram-no, outros odeiam-no.

The first Nobel laureate to reach 100 years of age, she won the prize in 1986 with American?Stanley Cohen?for their discovery of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein that makes developing cells grow by stimulating surrounding nerve tissue.

Her research helped in the treatment of spinal cord injuries and has increased understanding of cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's and conditions such as dementia and autism.

One of twins born to a Jewish family in?Turin?in 1909, Montalcini was the oldest living recipient of the prize.

During World War Two, the Allies' bombing of?Turin?forced her to flee to the countryside where she established a mini-laboratory. She fled to?Florence?after the German invasion of?Italy?and lived in hiding there for a while, later working as a doctor in a refugee camp.

After the war she moved to?St. Louis?in the?United States?to work at?Washington University, where she went on to make her groundbreaking NGF discoveries.

Best of 2012: My Favorite Things ? Creating Communication

With our remaining three days of 2012, Creating Communication will reflect on the year in review as it relates to public speaking and presentation. ?First, we will look at my favorite presentation-related things of 2012: book, webinar, Tweets, blog, TED Talk, speech, etc.

My favorite 2012 presentation book goes to the Harvard Business Review/Nancy Duarte partnership: HBR?Guide to Persuasive Presentations. ?My review of the text is forthcoming! ?It combines Duarte?s previous texts,?Slide:ology and?Resonate into a short, neat, HBR-approved book, and it?s a must-read for anyone who presents.

My favorite public speaking/presentation concept was Ethos3?s ?Presenter?s Manifesto.? ?I printed out a beautiful color copy of the inspiring, well-designed guide to the presentation revolution, and I urge you to read it and to join us in 2013. ?My favorite Tweets about public speaking and presentation also came from Ethos3. ?You must follow them here. ?Last, but not least, my favorite public speaking webinar this year was done by Ethos3?s CEO Scott Schwertly and was called ?How To Be An Online Presentation God.? ?Organized by Tony Yang, Director of Marketing at Knoodle, the one-hour webinar was the perfect compliment to everything Ethos3 has been doing this year. ?I love those guys so much, and they?ve really inspired me in 2012 in so many ways.

My favorite Slideshare presentation from 2012 was JesseDee?s updated ?You Suck At PowerPoint.? ?Though the original was great, this updated version took the design to the next level.

My favorite TED Talk of 2012 was definitely LZ Granderson?s ?The Myth of the Gay Agenda.? ?My favorite speech of 2012 was Bill Clinton?s Democratic National Convention address. ?You especially have to check out this article alongside the video of Clinton?s DNC speech.

My favorite website with comprehensive information about public speaking and presentation in 2012 was Andrew Dlugan?s Six Minutes. ?I was lucky enough to write for Six Minutes twice in 2012, and you can check out my articles here. ?While this series is my favorite of all time on Six Minutes, this article was my favorite of 2012 because I love examining charisma and what it means to be a charismatic speaker.

I can?t talk about the best of 2012 without honoring the two best overall public speaking/presentation brands: Nancy Duarte and Garr Reynolds. ?Both blog, Tweet, speak, and write amazing things on 21st century presenting.

Who or what would you add to this list of 2012 favorites? ?Did I miss anything important?

Weekend Report: 'Hobbit' Holds Off 'Django' on Final Weekend of 2012

On the last weekend of 2012, audiences crowded in to theaters to see three very different movies: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey managed to take the top spot for the third weekend in a row, though Django Unchained and Les Miserables also tallied impressive numbers. The Top 12 wound up earning an estimated $167.8 million, which helped push overall 2012 domestic box office to just under $10.8 billion (a new record).

The Hobbit
dipped 11 percent to an estimated $32.9 million. The movie has been holding well over the past week (noticeably better than I Am Legend over the same period in 2007), and $300 million seems like it could be in play again. Through 17 days, the first of three Lord of the Rings prequels has grossed $222.7 million, which is in between Fellowship of the Ring ($189.3 million) and The Two Towers ($243.6 million).

In second place, Django Unchained earned an estimated $30.7 million from 3,010 locations in its first weekend. Including its Tuesday-to-Thursday revenues, Django has already grossed $64 million; in comparison, Inglourious Basterds was at $50.6 million at the same point. Assuming it doesn't completely crash in the next few weeks (and with an "A-" CinemaScore, there's no reason to expect it to), Django will pass Basterds ($120.5 million) to become writer-director Quentin Tarantino's highest-grossing movie ever.

After starting stronger than Django on Christmas, Les Miserables has trailed off slightly over the last few days. Still, the musical did great business this weekend with an estimated $28 million from 2,808 theaters. Through six days its earned $67.5 million, and with a handful of Academy Award nominations on the way it should at least double that amount by the end of its run.

Les Miserables
's female audience (67 percent) awarded it a rare "A+" CinemaScore, and overall audiences gave it an "A".

In fourth place, family comedy Parental Guidance earned an estimated $14.8 million from 3,367 locations. With $29.6 million since Christmas Day, the Billy Crystal-Bette Midler comedy is clearly the top choice for families with younger children this season ahead of Monsters, Inc.'s 3D re-release ($18.5 million with six more days under its belt). Parental Guidance's audience was 52 percent female and 55 percent under the age of 25, and they gave it a solid "A-" CinemaScore.

Tom Cruise thriller Jack Reacher dipped 10 percent to $14 million, which was good for fifth place this weekend. Through 10 days, the Christopher McQuarrie adaptation has grossed $44.7 million, which is off from Valkyrie's $57.6 million total at the same point.

This Is 40
improved 14 percent to $13.2 million, bringing its 10-day total to $37.1 million. Judd Apatow's latest is going to have no problem out-grossing Funny People ($51.9 million), and should even get to Forgetting Sarah Marshall's level ($63.2 million).

Lincoln
continued to impress in its seventh weekend in nationwide release: Steven Spielberg's biopic of the 16th president was up 36 percent to $7.5 million for a new total of $132 million. With awards attention likely to buoy the movie through at least the month of January, Lincoln still has a lot more box office left to rack up.

Thanks to The Avengers, Brave, Wreck-It Ralph and now Lincoln, 2012 is officially Disney's highest-grossing year ever with over $1.53 billion.

Silver Linings Playbook
grossed an estimated $4.1 million in its first weekend in nationwide release. It's still only in 745 theaters, though, and The Weinstein Company will likely expand it much further following Academy Award nominations on January 10. To date, the David O. Russell comedy has earned $27.4 million.

Zero Dark Thirty
remained in the same five theaters in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, and as a result it dipped 23 percent to an estimated $315,000. Through 12 days, the controversial CIA thriller has grossed $1.37 million, and will expand to more theaters this weekend ahead of its Jan. 11 nationwide expansion.

Gus Van Sant's Promised Land, which stars Matt Damon and John Krasinski, debuted at 25 locations and earned a very weak $190,000. The movie will expand to around 1,500 screens on Friday, though it's unlikely that it will be able to pull many people away from the various other appealing options in theaters right now.

Effectively And Easily Market Your Business Online - Maynas Eric

The world of Affiliate marketing is growing exponentially. With all of the choices available you have a lot of options available for how to give your business more profits. This article will give you an introduction to internet marketing.

Ferret out about what people complain about and you will find what you should go for. Why not? Through this method, you find problems common to many people. Once you figure out what some of the common problems are, you can figure out what the solutions will be. This is a good way to target a specific audience and to draw their attention.

Offering free instruction (in the form of courses, videos, or e-books) is a great way to draw traffic to your site. This makes for savvy Internet marketing, because your free product acts as a persuasive advertisement for the materials you?re actually trying to sell. You can then run an ad campaign centered around your free course.

TIP! Don?t forget to use emphasis formatting options when creating your website?s content. Change up words or phrases by changing fonts or using bold or italics.

User reviews is one of the best marketing strategies to employ. When clientele post their actual experiences with your services and products, they are both possibly giving you word of mouth advertising that leads to new sales, as well as boosting your online presence with new and fresh content.

To have proper affiliate marketing, you will want to be listed in Google. Although there are other search engines, Google is hands down the most-used engine out there. A failure to advertise with Google might just mean your business will fail. Being listed on Google will help your business succeed.

Always view your website in the way that a potential customer would. Is it truly user-friendly? Does it offer enjoyment to the reader? Can your orders be placed quickly and clearly? All the SEO in the world will be pointless if your potential customers have trouble navigating your site once they get there.

TIP! A good website is essential to success in the realm of Internet marketing. Have a schedule for website testing to help find any link issues, graphic problems or bugs in general.

When you are starting to market your business online, you should look in to advertising. Early on, you rely entirely on your advertising to bring potential customers to your site. It will expose your brand to customers that would otherwise not see it.

Try and find leaders of your industry to interview. Never reprint another person?s words or ideas without first securing legal permission; otherwise, you run the risk of incurring legal wrath. You can also turn your interviews into articles that can be submitted to E-zine directories. This will help drive traffic and sales to your site as well as boost your credibility.

Add the words ?simple? and ?easy? to your online marketing lexicon. People avoid products that seem complicated, so adding descriptions like ?easy to order? or ?easy to use? will tempt customers to try your product. It is a beneficial way to boost business.

TIP! Fill your website with a wide range of descriptive, evocative words. People like adjectives, so use plenty of them throughout your site.

Make a plan for how you will market your webpage and the strategies you will use. There are quite a few cheap and even free ways to advertise. Think about creating a blog, putting up posters containing your site?s URL, or try to create a social networking page. You can attract people to your site in many ways. Creativity is the key to attracting people.

Thanks to the internet, there is a certain anonymity involved in conducting business. For small businesses and those that are independently owned, this tool is quite effective, as such businesses rely on developing personal relationships with customers to foster repeat business.

Use personal touches in your strategy. Consider posting a photo of yourself along with your actual name within your ads. You can have a handwritten welcome statement.

TIP! If sending emails to your customers and possible customers is one of your online marketing strategy, be sure to move the links that are included in the emails you send. It is all too easy for customers to no longer even see the links that become too familiar.

By demonstrating a positive outlook, you increase your chance for marketing success. Show your prospective customers that you love your product and also how great your business is. If your enthusiasm seems sincere, prospective customers can get excited about the product also. This should generate lots of sales and profits for you.

Many Internet users love playing games, so consider creating a simple game to keep visitors coming back to your site. Customers love to play free games online, and that can keep people coming back for more after they play once. You can incorporate advertising into your game. You could create a game relevant to your niche that subtly features your products.

TIP! The emails you send are vital to your efforts made in Internet marketing. Do your best to keep them protected.

If your potential or current customers seem interested in making donations to charity, offer to give profits to that charity every time they buy. You need to make a point to note this on your site so your customers feel they are contributing. It does not need to be a huge percentage to see additional sales.

Normally, you shouldn?t mix business and pleasure, but this is an exception. There is no pressure in this instance and it can be a hobby. Get together with your wife and do this together.

A tip that needs consideration when marketing on the Internet is to try different ideas and strategies constantly. This is important for this type of business because regular income is slow at first and may never be steady until you are well established. This goes for the marketing techniques you implement and also the business itself. Don?t quit your job until you can experience some financial security.

TIP! Use social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to connect with your audience. Social media websites keep you in constant contact with your visitors, providing a fast, easy way to send out updates or promotions.

Your website?s tag provides a perfect opportunity to establish and shape your identity. Many people will either be enticed further or steered away by what they read in your website?s tag. If you say something stupid, confuse readers, or don?t have an authentic message, you won?t make as many sales.

Marketing via Internet does not need to be hard or confusing. Try some of the tips here to help with your marketing efforts. Not only is it extremely cost-effective, Affiliate marketing is also increasingly important because so many consumers now use the Internet as their primary communications tool.

Colin Farrel Kills for Noomi Rapace in 'Dead Man Down' Debut Trailer

FilmDistrict's new thriller Dead Man Down topbills Colin Farrell (Total Recall) and Noomi Rapace (Sweden-language The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo). Marketing was supposed to start earlier this month, but due to the horrendous events at Sandy Hook Elementary, it was delayed until now. Head on and watch the full trailer below.

The trailer is visually promising for a lo-fi (it has spent approximately $30 Million). Explosions and action sequences look stunning, although some moments tend to take the turn to the Michael Bay kind. I have my fingers crossed but I am willing to put a little more faith on Neils Arden Olpev, director of the first Dragon Tattoo flick. Farrell and Rapace look a good pair to follow, too, so this goes "very" on my movie radar.

Dead Man Down is set in New York, where a hitman Victor (Farrell) is blackmailed by his beautiful neighbor Beatrice (Rapace), a woman thirsty for revenge, to kill his crime-lord boss Hoyt (Terrence Howard, Iron Man). The movie also stars Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunters) and Isabelle Huppert (Captive, Amour).

Written by J.H. Wyman (one of TV's "Fringe" regular writer), the movie opens on U.S. theaters this March 8.

Repurpose Food Tins Into Magnetic Storage Boxes

Repurpose Food Tins Into Magnetic Storage BoxesInteresting food tins that once held spices, candies, or tea can be really interesting and useful storage boxes for your kitchen or workshop by adding a magnet and perhaps removing the lid.

Martha Stewart's weblog suggests adding the magnet to the inside of the tin, but you can also attach it to the back if you'd rather have more storage space and don't mind the gap the magnet would create between the tin and your metallic surface. We've been hacking Altoids tins for years, but there are hundreds of other interesting shapes and sizes that can be used for project boxes, organizers, etc.

Enhance Your Dwelling With These Home Improvement Tips | Home ...

TIP! You can increase your home?s value by putting in a reliable water filtration system. This is usually a very easy home improvement project that can be done in just a couple of hours.

An excellent step for many homeowner is a home improvement job. Your home will be more beautiful, livable and valuable. Home improvements are also a ton of fun to engage in and will be worth the time invested. By reading this article, you can capture some ideas on getting the most from your home improvement project.

TIP! Even your walk needs to be updated from time to time. If you take out your front walk and put brick pavers down, you will have a unique entry.

Pick a color scheme to use for the room. Complementary colors are especially great in formal rooms of the home, like dining rooms. A color wheel displays color choices that complement one another in opposite positions on the wheel; such as red and green, or yellow and blue. The color palette clearly distinguishes the colors, which makes it visually demanding, but exceptionally helpful.

TIP! Make sure you have the safety gear that is necessary to complete heavier projects. Always use a back harness for lifting heavy objects and a helmet if something falls.

When you are remodeling your home, do your plumbing and electrical projects first. You generally want to do these prior to other jobs since they require access to the inside of your walls. Also, it is much simpler to do wiring and plumbing repairs once the walls open.

TIP! If you have the money to do so, get natural materials for your home improvement projects. Wood, ceramic, stone and other real materials are usually superior to synthetic substitutes.

Doing your projects in the right order is essential if you will be doing multiple projects. Do things like cabinets and walls first, then the floor last. This is because the work required to replace the cabinets could potentially damage the floor, so you would want to replace the floor after the fact. Sit down and write out a detailed plan before you do any work ? you?ll be very glad that you did.

TIP! Stucco can be used as a great alternative for siding on your home. Stucco is simple to put up, but you may want to hire a professional just to be safe.

Finding inspiration in others? projects is perfectly acceptable. Many find this to be useful when planning. Books and magazines can be good for an idea of what to do. Get color samples and fabric swatches from your home improvement store. The more you know about your project, the better prepared you will be to complete it successfully.

TIP! Investing in new insulation today will save you money over the next several years. Older homes tend to have less insulation than they should.

Once a homeowner has a lot of successful improvement jobs finished, the benefits and boosted confidence can create more ambitious work. This can never hurt. There is no limit if you work with focus and intelligence.
