Hey folks, Michael here. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on what
NVIDIA is up to regarding solutions for
stereoscopic gaming. If all goes according to plan,
by the end of this year they will have their own brand of active shutter glasses on the market which, when combined with a PC computer system utilizing one of their
3-D Driver inclusive GPUs (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT GPU or better), will enable high quality stereo gaming on
120hz televisions. The system should work with all Direct X 7, 8, 9, and 10 games by rendering left and right eye views for each game-frame.
The 120hz display is important to a flawless 3-D experience because it allows
60 fps per eye--a high frame rate necessary to avoid eye strain. By comparison, digital cinema projectors rigged for 3-D run at 72 fps per eye.
NIVIDIA is also participating in the
ongoing discussions amongst various entertainment industry groups to help enable a new standard for 3-D movies and television at home.
