Info Post

Natalia Clavier is no stranger to music aficionados. Considering her unforgettable contributions to Federico Aubele’s “Panamericana“, there is no doubting why Aubele has fallen for the warmth of her raw and tempting tone of voice.

Bordering on raspy, the tinge of huskiness is what gives her voice character. Some might find it as a flaw, most especially for fans of crystal clear voices. But once you get to the second track, there is an actual marriage between music and voice that carries one to a soothing place. A fleeting warmth that takes over, reminiscent of Mono, Groove Armada, and of course, Thievery Corporation.

The album is walking on dangerous ground though. Being in the Latin genre, it is easily bound for comparison but I prefer not to, for the list of past and present recordings of similar style will never end. Vocal prowess is not an issue for there is none advertised. Clavier simply lends sensuality to music arrangements that I find to be pleasant discoveries.

Fusing genres and instruments such as a violin, cello, congas where all are showcased in genius counterpoint and patterned themes. Maracas, plastic bag shaker, synthesizers alternately taking on shifting rhythms add hip tapping feelings and makes on want to turn down the lights, close your eyes and breathe in the quick violin solo in “Ay De Mi”. Or how one is reminded of Pedro Almodovar films in “Tu Que Puedes Vuelvete” where Almodovar’s favourite insertion of music scenes are after dinner or beach scenes where the characters gather around the fire and listen to the talented guitarist. Old school and traditional, but never fails to cast a spell.

We can go from song to song in this album, but I shall recommend as quickly as I was taken by this album. Each track written so beautiful and crafted with instrumentation reminiscent of old school classical orchestration, works so well with the synthesizers and contemporary effects not only accomplishes to invite the lovers of true Latin music, but manages to seduce even the innocent ears of music neophytes.

And on a lighter note, the CD is a joyful discovery, definitely something I would immediately upload to my media player and take with me wherever I go, and play most especially when I need moments of pleasant alone time with my favourite playlist.
