Paramount has been carrying G.I. Joe: Retaliation for a bit too long, it was supposed to be one of the early summer blockbusters of 2012. For 3D post-conversion purposes, the release date for the Rise of the Cobra sequel has been pushed later to a March 29th release next year. Withdrawn not less than a month before it's initial release, Retaliation had been running advert campaigns and has already taken out money - posters, trailers, TV spots.
Now that the pic is moved five months from now, a new trailer has been released which will be shown in theaters everywhere in the world. Weird enough, the particular promo trailer doesn't quite boast of it's new feature, the 3D element, on the title frames of it. This leads to speculation that the sudden withdrawal was caused by more than 3D conversion, which nonetheless, is good. Moves like these normally meant that some changes were needed for the betterment of the project.
Retaliation follows the G.I. Joes, headed by Capt. Duke Hauser (Channing Tatum, Magic Mike), in continuation of their battle against C.O.B.R.A. But their mortal nemesis agency is only half of the battle, with the government against them, threatening their very own existence. The sequel also stars Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), under Jon M. Chu's direction. Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wenrick writes the screenplay.
