In Radical Comics' Hercules, the mighty son of God Zeus dons a lion-head. Tell you what: it looks epic and it's going to be turned to a film. But before any excitement seeds on your gut, let me tell you this: Brett Ratner is going to direct it and Dwayne Johnson will play title character (via Deadline). Shame on you earth for letting this thing happen.
Ratner, whose recent works are Tower Heist and Horrible Bosses, is more or less ridiculed since the tragic X-Men: The Last Stand happened. I can't disagree with those people, The Last Stand was damned. Dwayne Johnson (The Scorpion King), on the other hand, is busy promoting the long-delayed G.I. Joe sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He is tapped for the tile role and I couldn't grimace more to this news. He isn't the type of actor that I want to see as the son of Zeus. Or dammit, he's just not good enough to qualify, this is, based on my books.
In the film adaptation, which is obviously sourced from the comic book by Radical publishing, "Hercules: The Thracian Wars" written by Steve Moore with Cris Boslin's art, we follow the same hateful Hercules, turning his back on the Gods. A mad king builds an army and treats living lands as a training ground for his mighty army, taking away innocent lives. Hercules and his brave soul, naturally tries to put this to a stop before it gets to Greece or even to Olympus. (Ryan Condol has translated the comic book to film).
The film is slated for a 2014 release under MGM and Paramount Pictures.
