Effective atmospherics, creepily welcoming spirits and a demon which frankly looked like an unarmored version of some villain from the Power Rangers TV series. With this, Insidious became a quick cult classic. And let's face it: what happens with cult horrors is either gloried for the film that they were, or continue the "legacy" with some interminable movie sequels. Put short: I am not surprise with the release of Insidious Chapter 2 next year.
James Wan will still be at work with the sequel, of which some details remain under wraps, with fellow Insidious maker, Leigh Whannell as the film's scribe. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins are all returning, which might hint that we're in for a same exact movie (of course we hope it to be on the contrary), but this is James Wan, and I'm inclined to believe that he won't be making a sequel if he doesn't have real plans for it.
Wan will be at work at two horror films next year. This, and The Conjuring (one that I am secretly following. The premise feels generic as hell, but I'm an admitted James Wan believer...so.). Wan's Insidious grossed a whopping $97 million worldwide with little budget of $1.5 million.
The movie is likely to begin production early next year if it wants to keep up with the targeted release of August 30th next year. More news as we hear more.
