Development for the Highlander remake is a over a year underway, seeking for a new helmer after 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo took departure from the project, Deadline reports. Summit Entertainment and Fresnadillo apparently had entirely different views toward the film that lead both sides to amicably call it off.
While Fresnadillo seem to be a reasonable loss, Summit sustains the aggression to move forward with the picture which headlines Ryan Reynolds. The movie has the script penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) which follows a Connor MacLeon, an immortal Scottish swordsman who, after centuries of battling other immortal swordsman, needs to face off with the last of his kind, an unspeakably murderous and powerful barbarian, who also lust for the coveted ability referred simply as "The Prize."
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Summit are both seeking new companies, the former a new project, the latter a new director. Fresnadillo did Intacto which is no question a very good and original film and Intruders, while fell downhill shown very high potential in the beginning. He's a reasonable loss, ins't he? A whopping yes is the answer, considering Reynolds is lead star (who, we should admit, may be professional but not always exactly "good". I loved him on Buried, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine though).
From the looks of it, we have to wait until Summit finds a new helmer and decide to stay with the movie, or like Fresnadillo, commence to exit too.
