Metro Manila Film Festival Trivia: Did you know that it was called: Metropolitan Film Festival until 1977. The same year actress-turned-Batangas governor Vilma Santos's Best Actress film: Burlesk Queen copped 95% of awards in the festival.?
MANILA KINGPIN -- The ASIONG SALONGA Story
The death of Filipino action movies drastically lowered down the quality of our national cinema since. One great factor is Da King's death, Fernando Poe, Jr. Better not pout, because one movie will become the salvation of the genre in the Philippines.
MANILA KINGPIN is an action film based on true events, centering in the Tondo slums setting. It is entirely shot in black and white, something made I guess to bring back the vibe of the old Filipino action films. This adds artistry to the film, personally speaking.
Manila Kingpin is honestly the sole movie I am excited about, because it's the only thing different from the previous festival. Plus, the cinematography, from the looks of the trailer, is stunning. That retro, pure black-and-white just captivates me all the time.

ANG PANDAY 2
Since the birth of Exodus which was generously produced by the prominent Philippine theme park: Enchanted Kingdom, Sen. Bong Revilla earned the highest praises for being one of the best fantasy/action actors of this time.
Films follow Resiklo, and then by 2009 he filmed Ang Panday. Many enjoyed slick and fresh-to-the-Filipino-cinema visual effects with its release, claiming it as one of the breakthroughs of Philippine movies in terms of using visual effects.
It's true. Ang Panday had slick and smooth effects. And it earned them "Best Picture" by year 2009. Now, a sequel is added to the list, disregarding the first released collaboration of Sen. Bong with "Bossing"'s: Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote, last year. ANG PANDAY 2 is the same movie, with better digital animations, only it looks A LOT like ERAGON and CLASH OF THE TITANS! Makes me groan. Hopefully its better in everything else. To take a look of how good Flavio might be in this film, watch the trailer below.
