Opening on Filipino theaters this week is a longed 007 chapter, a movie about video games, a Thai heartthrob to exploit in generating more ticket sales and a documentary about the ever-loved Lilia Cuntapay. We are honestly off to a good one for this week, a lot of options are displayed for the casual moviegoer.
Wreck-It Ralph is a long-expected video game epic by Disney in which we follow a video game antoginist character named Wreck-It Ralph who tries to be the "good guy" we conventionally know of. The pic honestly looks very good, featuring voice acting from John C. Reiley (Boogie Nights, We Need To Talk About Kevin) and Glee resident Jane Lynch. It tries to build the same atmosphere that Toy Story triumphantly dissipated, and I'm all-bits interested in knowing how much work it could do to reach that.
Skyfall, arguably the only thing I'm crazy about seeing this week, is the latest chapter on the espionage franchise of James Bond. It stars Daniel Craig (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) who stars as Bond in the film I hope and I start to see to be as one packed with heart, and the thrills of one legit Bond film. Trust issues, action, tick tock tick tock. The film is directed by the estimable Sam Mendes who did American Beauty and Revolutionary Road - in short, we are faced with an Academy Award sweeper, Sam Mendes.
Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay is a documentary that follows a nationwide horror extra-superstar Lilia Cuntapay, as she prepares to receive her first acting award. It looks fun, and I can't really shake it off myself that I'm going to see it on theaters. I rarely watch a documentary which main purpose is to expose a dilemma.
Suddenly Is Magic, on the contrary, looks like one more money-maker for Star Cinema that feels uninspired at the first look. It stars Thai superstar Mario Maurer (Crazy Little Thing) and Erich Gonzales (Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang), thrust them on screen as lovers, and that was that. It feels like on of those conventional rom-coms that is solely commercial, with no intention in bringing a critically worthy movie.
This week makes a good one for moviegoers, I will presume without the fear that I may be proved wrong. With the exception of the fourth movie I talked about, you could buy tickets to any movie without caution. Stay for next week! :)
