Gaga, Kanye, Lil Wayne Send Most Retweeted Tweets of 2010
Info Post
Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Lil Wayne were among the musicians that ranked on the list of the "10 Most Retweeted Tweets of Twitter in 2010," which was revealed online today (Dec. 15).
Comedian Stephen Colbert earned the top slot with his June post, "In honor of oil-soaked birds, 'tweets' are now 'gurgles,'" while posts by Drake and Lil Wayne followed at Nos. 2 and 3. Some of the most retweeted messages were succinct comments on topical events, such as Kanye West's Sept. 4 post -- and No. 8 on the list -- "I'm sorry Taylor," a reference to the rapper interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Meanwhile, Lil Wayne's post "Aaaaaaahhhhhhmmmmm baaaaakkkkkkkkkk!," sent the day the rapper was released from prison after an eight-month stint, ranks at No. 3 on the list.
Other most-retweeted tweets were from artists offering thought-provoking sentiments: "We always ignore the ones who adore us, and adore the ones who ignore us," Drake wrote on Sept. 18 to win the second-most retweets, while Lady Gaga's post, "I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes. I'm on the right track, baby. I was Born This Way," clocked in at No. 8 on the list.
Justin Bieber's Spanish-language message, "Te quiero mucho mi amor" ("I love you very much my love"), was his only tweet to grace the top 10 at No. 4. But the pop star and his 6.3 million followers made sure that other musicians' musings on Bieber were heard loud and clear. "I cry because I love Justin Bieber!!!" Joe Jonas wrote to earn the No. 6 slot, whileRihanna's post -- "Justin Bieber just flashed me his abs in the middle of a restaurant! Wow! He actually had a lil 6 pack! Sexy, lol! #Beliebersplzdontkillme" -- came in at No. 9.
Twitter did not reveal how many retweets each of the top 10 posts received. Comedic posts from @alqaeda and @shitmydadsays rounded out this year's top 10.
