The trailer for Scary Movie 5 looks promising. Promisingly awful.
There's a reason why people started following the Scary Movie series and evidently, (let's hope not though) the fifth incarnation in the franchise can't become one of those reason. Dating back to year 2000, the Wayans Brothers made the first film, parodying the meta-horror Scream. Instant hit. First and second movies were fun, somewhat witty and actually good. But when David Zucker took over (not that we put blame on his chest), everything seem to fall down. Of course, we have foreseen this event, formulas when challenged by time will only have one common destination: weariness. Okay, it's Zucker's fault too.
This time, one Malcolm D. Lee (Undercover Brother) is taking the directing duties. I heard he has some good tricks up his sleeve, but in frankness they doesn't show on what we've seen on the trailer, which you will see below.
In the film, snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French dance company director Pierre is putting on a new production. Jody (Tisdale), a Caucasian late-20s mother of two and her late-20s African American friend Kendra (Ash) are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry (Shannon), gets cut from the production and goes berserk.
Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Terry Crews (The Expendables), Marisa Saks, Erica Ash, Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girl), Charlie Sheen (Red Dawn) and more star in the film.
In theaters April 12.
