Info Post

Marking the band’s first release under their new label Mercury/Universal, Jamiroquai is back with its most recent album titled “Rock Dust Light Star”. This blistering, poetic, meaty, reflective and inspiring album is a result of two years’ work. It was written between Jay Kay’s home studio in Buckinghamshire, Hook Manor Studios in Oxfordshire and Thailand.

The epic first single, sun-kissed Californian ballad “Blue Skies”, with its lush string arrangement and emotive vocal, and “Hurtin’” (Led Zep riffs meets Donny Hathaway vibes), both showcase a different side of Jay Kay’s voice, which is slightly more laidback. Beyond that Method vocal, “I have been using my voice a bit differently, more laidback maybe. I’ve slowed down on it a bit. You’ve got to grow with the music,” says Jay Kay, the band’s vocalist. Following a passionate, if not particularly gripping, performance of syrupy ballad "Blue Skies”, Jamiroquai ended its set with the hi-octane disco funk tune "White Knuckle Ride," which is progressively hitting Philippine’s airwaves.

It is the group’s sheer joy at the power of ideas and music that has made Jamiroquai one of the greatest live bands around. To date, the band has sold more than 35 million records worldwide. They’re a band on fire, led by one of the most charismatic frontmen Britain has ever produced, with a shelf-full of awards, including five MTV gongs, an Ivor Novello and a Grammy to name a few.

“Virtual Insanity” was Jamiroquai's break-through single and is the one song they are ubiquitously associated with. The video was also an unmistakable gem, highly acclaimed by critics and fans over the world. They won a Grammy Award, and received 10 nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards. They won for Best Video, Best Breakthrough Video, Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects. After the ceremony, the album 'Travelling Without Moving' jumped 46 places to a new high of 29 on the Billboard 200 chart and sales went up by 92% in one week. The video for this single was nominated for the Select MTV Award as part of the 1996 MTV Europe Music Awards. This is the ultimate MTV viewers’ choice award.

“I do feel rejuvenated, music-wise and business-wise; now, “everything has clicked,” Jay Kay says. A new team at Mercury, a reinvigorated creative partnership with his musicians and producers, and even, in chopper flying, a new, demanding adrenalized passion – it all adds up to a man buzzing with ideas, and eager to get out on tour and take his new songs to the world again.

MCA Music brings to you the deluxe edition of this album, which includes 6 bonus tracks with funky remixes of Blue Skies and White Knuckle Ride, one will definitely enjoy groovin’ to.

Definitely in the game, and on top of it. Jamiroquai are back.
