Just when The Twilight Saga is finally being put to close, bestseller author Stephenie Meyer's post-Twilight novel adaptation The Host dispersed its debut poster and trailer. To tell that both of the following medium doesn't look good is an understatement.
Meyer's novel, translated to film and directed by In Time director Andrew Niccol, pivots around Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan from The Lovely Bones) who was injected with a parasitic alien (called a "Soul") to serve as a host. This happens amid an extraterrestrial invasion where humanity is nowhere but in the fringe of extinction. Her "Soul" inexplicably bonds with her and sets out to be of help to other remaining humans including Jared Howe (Max Iron from Red Riding Hood).
Time to come clean: I'm liking what I'm seeing so far with the movie. The trailer looks promising with its striking action sequences without missing that romantic tonality that Twi-hearts would always love. Niccol already proved efficient in this blend with the recent Timberlake-Seyfried dystopian film In Time (though I'm withdrawn when I realized how he gets messy from one time to another; regardless, I think frankly, he's worth a shot). It looks good that I practically have forgotten that this was from the creator of Twilight, the movie that pioneered homosexual vampires, sparkling under the sun and nothing but unscary.
