With high-profile directors continually declining, Star Wars: Episode VII and its long search for its director is the craze for quite a few days. The buzz is a bit deafening, too. Disney had bought to popular space saga (if I put my dismay to words, Disney buying Star Wars, my blog could be taken down, you know? This is me exaggerating. Pardon), and had the production moving already. Michael Arndt (Damsel in Distress) is writing the script. Still no director, though.
Over The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere last night, producer Frank Marshall (hubby of new Lucasfilm president) has dodged the resonating question in a talk with MTV, his answer: "I do," he was asked if he's got new intel on Episode VII. "But I can't reveal it, or I won't be alive tomorrow."
Marshall also added that they are getting there, the search having narrowed to just a "couple of candidates". But the general public should still be on hold as the date when the beans will be finally spilled remains a mystery. This is technically saying that the search for directors is near-closing.
It doesn't sound like a no, but it's no confirmation either. If he does direct the seventh Star Wars, it's the only good news we've received after Michael Arndt's confirmation to go scribe.
Star Wars: Episode VII is targeting a 2015 release.
