Info Post
There's always a spot in the chest for these kind of movies - Pitch Perfect, a film that takes fun to be made and, inspired by it's namesake, is perfectly pitched. The pic is self-aware of its forlornly weak script so it rather toyed with it in fun and sharp energy. This has become consistent, to the extent that the characters who were created to be just as the setting of the film, will take a lot longer to deduce that they are the "backdrop" characters. It's a likable film, following a reserved College student Beca (Anna Kendrick) who, in pursuit of her D.J. dreams, must enter at least one college club, as her father requires so.

She runs across with a sample of the earth's female-singing-nerds population, simply naming their group, The Bellas. Turns out, they're a flunking a Capella singing group, who are bullied by a male archetype of their posse, and now needs to rebuild their team. Unwilling at first, Beca finds herself signed up for The Bellas, and helps shaping up and stepping The Bellas's music to the next. The film is a resemblance of a lot of films, most notably Bring It On, only we're on the singing version. It has competition and the cheery crowd and, if humor is taken out, fiendish rivals. Its unjustifiably hilarious acts, is by far one of the best, and stands in the lines of 21 Jump Street's and Goon's.

This is thanks to the well-orchestrated characters, although unnecessarily well-developed. The Bellas is a motley crew, led by the overly perfectionist Aubrey (Anna Camp), the other senior Bella member Chloe (Brittany Snow, who have also appeared in 2007's Hairspray - also a musical) and the sexually-asserted and self-named "Fat Amy" (Rebel Wilson). Other characters were well-built, but felt like a loose end, keeping out of the light - an easy example is the black lesbian. Wilson's comic range is from a perfect tone to a very much sharp and sometimes too shrill. I can totally understand if some people will dislike her in the movie, me excluded. Kendrick's likability has appeared to me as very striking, made me deduce how easy is her to watch. How the camera loves her. She was recently in the found-footage cop-out film, End of the Watch.

Musically contagious, from favorite tracks to some pop songs Pitch Perfect upgrades and makes it match catchier, all the while you are falling in love. They covered Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA", which cemented my thoughts on why Cyrus's music career faded so fleeting. It feels as if Pitch Perfect is the filmmaker's (director Jason Moore) lark, and it well translates here: mind-bending comedy, legitimate likability and shoe-tapping a Capellas. Without question, you'll have a good time. B+
