Right after Disney has bought Lucasfilm, the first thing that came up is them planning to making a new Star Wars trilogy. The plan is to start on Star Wars VII and then continue making a new film each year. This has generated lots of reactions from fanboys and some, as expected, went derange, not sure whether they liked the idea or not, I know I'm somewhere in the middle.
When the fandom of the popular sci-fi cult settled down, a lot has theorized that the film will have to run along with "Thrawn Trilogy", a set of novels by Timothy Zahn, which is initially considered by Lucasfilm for Star Wars. Quick enough, E! Online was tapped by one of its sources, saying that none of the planned movies, which are hoped to start reaching screens by 2015, are going to be adaptations of the books. "It's an original story," says E! Online's source.
Meanwhile on The Hollywood Reporter, sources spoken that the films are going to follow the trend of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, making standalone movies for individual characters in addition to the trilogy.
Disney, now owning the rights to the franchise, are having plans to expand the reach of Star Wars in terms of media. "Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment and consumer products," George Lucas himself tells in a recent conference.
