After the misbegotten shifting of directions (from found-footage to traditional style) evident in the recent [REC] 3 Genesis, we are down to the fourth and final installment of the popular Spanish zombie franchise, [REC] 4 Apocalypse. It may be recalled that the directing duo (from the first two films) both dismembered, and took one film each to work on. Paco Plaza worked on Genesis, and Jaume Balagueró is now taking on Apocalypse as director.
Balaguero, hasn't told yet if he will go with traditional style or with found-footage, which the film was known for anyway. While we are hopeful that Balaguero goes with the latter, there have been words spreading that Filmax and the people behind the fourth entry will be pursuing the former, just to continue what was newly established with Genesis. There's no confirmation yet but if Apocalypse is shot traditionally, it's likely to have fans of the franchise unhappy. Traditional or found footage, the movie is going to be pursued with filming scheduled to start early next year.
Besides the title treatment, that was imported off of the franchise's facebook - which you will see as you read more (and the topmost photo of the post) - and the plot, there are no details else to be shared at the moment. The film will follow the events after [REC] 2 (Genesis occurred in a wholly different setting) wherein Angela Vidal, the female reporter from the first two films is shown survivor to the outbreak but beared a strange string of the virus and had to be quarantined in a high-security isolation facility. Of course, things will go horrendously wrong - we can only hope for that.
More on this film as we hear more.
