Info Post
Two of the arguably best zombie movies of the modern times [REC], back in '07, and [REC]², three years after, were both ghastly. "Two movies that are aware of their purpose" is just about the opposite of [REC]³: Génesis; a jarring entry to the prominent Spanish zom-franchise.

In this Paco Plaza's solo zombie spectacle, he drifts away from many things. Not necessarily done for the worse, the "found footage" gimmick was half-ditched. The consistent tone of serious suspense is not much accentuated here.

Enter Carla (Leticia Dolera) and Koldo (Diego Martin), fresh bride and groom whose wedding reception is turned to a venue of chaos involving a strange illness that makes people go bonkers for human flesh.

Plaza used to team up with Jaume Balagueró, crafting the first two films. The two will temporarily part ways, each directing one film for the series, of what is left with themselves. Plaza's [REC]³: Genesis, obviously needed the help of Balagueró, lacking jolt and tonality that the audience always loved with Genesis's predecessors.

Abandoning the shaky-camera gimmick, the movie held firm and still with its own slick gore and decent shocks. What happens here is the supply is in its smallest, when compared to the two original [REC]s.

Co-writing the script with a Luiso Berdejo is also director Paco Plaza, and by now, it's notable that the script is too weak that it had to cling to conventions. The biblical reference rung more like an excuse while what's left with the script felt a

Another predicament here is the very far cry in terms of tonality. Plaza seemed to choose to cling on a rom-zom-com-esque movie than an in-your-face utterly scary zombie fright fest. In general, this will be a downhill for a movie; personally, I liked this decision.

In the eighty minute run time, there were a few moments of innovation that were emphasized so people will appreciate. I have no means to ensure that adding humor is one of those (because very many of the attempts lacked wit in this department) however.

Fast, and may by far be the weakest among its pack, [REC]³: Génesis is a refreshing entry to the franchise, thrusting on-stage a gruesome spectacle of fright, fun, and well...a sweating bride swinging a smoking chainsaw in the air.

Chances are slim for Génesis to not disappoint, but it's sure a good time. Buy it on Amazon InstantVideo and watch it first, like me!
