Taylor Hackford sits on director's chair in the new crime-thriller Parker which will hit theaters January 25th, 2013. He's done a couple of good films like Ray, an Oscar-harvesting biopic; middling class such as The Devil's Advocate fetching Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino in the horror front; but also frizzling ones like the recent romance-sauce Love Ranch. Fortunately, Hackford's filmmaking has been in consistent form, and quite impressively, he often brings something for people to invest on.
His latest will be centered on a professional thief (Jason Statham) who lives by a particular moral code, "not stealing from anyone who can't afford it, not hurting anyone who don't deserve it." Yes, kind of a modern Robin Hood treatment, as CinemaBlend describes. In one crucial heist, he is double-crossed by his mates just when he decides to call off of being a thief, because it simply isn't moral. His posse of thugs, lead by the unnerving Michael Chiklis, shoots him and leaves him for dead. Determined to devise a vengeful plan, he seeks help which he eventually finds with a beautiful realtor (Jennifer Lopez). You can see the trailer as you head inside (see the poster that we posted yesterday).
The trailer feels the same Statham vibe to it, my basis on saying this being the staples of the majority of his films; opening vaults (Safe), nifty heist missions (The Bank Job) and the element of double crossing comrades (The Italian Job). But what feels dramatically new is the Southern Texan accent Statham suddenly wears. Oh, and he dons a wig in one sequence in the film. Silly enough, I honestly think that the pic would be no less than fun with its delightfully fresh small elements and the possible "miscast" of JLo, that...what the hell is she doing here anyway? Regardless, I'll be rushing to the theaters once this come out.
